Your rights as a seasonal worker

If you take seasonal work in another EU country, you have the same rights as local workers. Here are the essentials in brief — details are on the official EU sites.

  • Equal treatment: you are entitled to the same working conditions as local workers — pay, working hours, dismissal, health and safety.
  • Written contract: ask for the terms in writing — where, what work, for how long, for how much.
  • Social security: you are insured where you work — healthcare, family and unemployment benefits.
  • Housing and transport: accommodation and transport provided by the employer must meet the country's health and safety standards.
  • Declared work: undeclared work costs you your insurance and your rights. On FarmAtlas, farms commit to declared employment.
  • Never pay for a job: if someone asks you for money to get work, report it on the offer page (“Something wrong with this offer?”).

This page is an informational summary, not legal advice. The rules of the country where you work apply.
